Amidst the North Holland landscape you can find a small but beautiful island, the Westwouderpolder. A 7-kilometre (4.3-mile) tour takes you around the entire island, which is situated in Lake Alkmaardermeer. Take the ferry over to the hamlet De Woude to embark on a lovely hike along Lake Alkmaardermeer, Lake Uitgeestermeer and a stream called the Stierop. If you look up you can enjoy the sight of meadow birds flying through the sky, where redshanks show off their acrobatic skills as well. After your walk can relax in the local bar ‘t Kombof, situated in a traditional farmhouse, and reflect on all that you have seen along the way.
