The Krayenhoff Route brings you to fortresses built on former Posten van Krayenhoff locations. This system of military posts was a forerunner to the Defence Line of Amsterdam. Constructed around the city of Amsterdam in 1809-1810 these earthworks took their name from the man who designed them, the famed General Krayenhoff. Starting in Haarlem, sometimes referred to as the most northern Flemish city, you can embark on a bike tour that takes you to Spaarndam, Spaarnwoude, Amsterdam Osdorp, Amsterdam Sloten, Halfweg, Zwanenburg and Vijfhuizen. In addition to admiring the Fort north of Spaarndam and the Forth south of Spaarndam you can take a look at the sluice complex. On your route you’ll also pass by windmill De Oude Molen, the Fort near Penningsveer, Fort Liebrug and the Fort near Vijfhuizen.
