The walk along the Liniepad provides a good picture of the former Defence Line of Amsterdam between Fort Abcoude and the Fort near Nigtevecht.
The hiking trail partly follows the Liniedijk (defence line dike), from which it derives its name. The Gein river also is an important feature of this walking route. The path that leads you along the Gein is extremely beautiful and treats you to typically Dutch views: a polder landscape scattered with cows, dikes lined with willows, and old farmhouses. Along the route you’ll encounter two batteries.
You can extend your walk to 10 kilometres (6 miles) in total by visiting the Fort near Nigtevecht. Various types of birds use this fortress as their resting spot. After your walk you can enjoy a cup of coffee at the Viscentrum (Fish Centre).
